Why does my natural grass lawn always look so horrible?

That result of a lot of hard work and money

First off, we know that a healthy, full, bright green lawn can be naturally grown in Arizona’s deserts. We can also bring snow machines in and go skiing in a parking lot in Tempe if we really wanted too, but eventually nature wins out and sustaining both that natural grass lawn and that pile of snow become a lot of work and a burden on resources.

Back to Basics: American vs. Imported Turf Products

Two common questions we get are; (1) Why does everyone say American turf products are better? and (2) Why are imported products cheaper? Both are great questions that way heavily when being posed with several bids from several local installers of artificial grass.

As the artificial grass industry continues to grow, so does the competition. As competition increases, one of the ways turf installation contractors try to gain an edge is to offer the product less expensively. This is an honest approach to competing in any industry, a lower price is a great way to sway a customer. Obviously offering it at a lower price means the product needs to be sourced cheaper in order for the contractor to make money. No matter what a contractor says, he is always making money, that’s why they do this.

Why does everyone say American turf products are better?

This goes without saying that for the longest time American made products of any industry have the lowest rate of failure for the dollar. Why we say “for the dollar” is because their are other countries that can and have built better performing and longer lasting products. Those countries that do make attempts and succeed at surpassing USA quality offerings generally do so by having limitless budgets and selling to those with limitless budgets.

Ferrari’s and Porsche’s are the perfect example, beautiful cars in their own right, and worth every penny to the eye of the beholder, but the current generation of the Corvette Z06 can perform equally as well on track at half the cost. Is the leather as choice? No. But it’s still quality leather. It’s an example what America has always done well, offer incredible quality for the dollar. The same goes with turf products, there are high end exotic products with unique yarn technologies, and there are cheap products not worth installing at any cost.

That leads us to the next question.

Getting Greener: City Water Rebate Programs for Artificial Grass Use In Arizona Backyards

Water has many places it can be used effectively to be a productive resource, growing non-native grass in the desert is NOT one of them.

Artificial grass is recommended for use in landscaping in many cities across the Greater Phoenix Valley and Tuscon. Many cities offer programs where you can earn credits, cash, or tax deductions for installing a xeriscape (a landscape that efficiently and wisely uses water – having little impact on the surrounding desert and conserving a valuable natural resource in water).

For your convenience we’ve compiled a list of websites for known water rebate programs in Arizona. If we’ve missed one, feel free to let us know and we will add it for our future customers. Water rebate programs are handle by the city directly with the home owner, Arizona Turf Solutions does not facilitate the rebate process. If you wish to take advantage of these programs please contact your city first, many times a city representative has to make a visit before an installation takes place to audit the rebate.

Is Artificial Grass Safe for Use In Playgrounds?

Preventing injury and minimizing exposure to harmful agents is the main concern for many parents. As the technology in sustainable construction continues to evolve, the application of synthetic surfaces are becoming a very popular choice for ground-cover in both residential and commercial playgrounds. The question remains, is an area built primarily of polymers safe for children? And how can these advances improve our children’s experience and safety?

A very common question we receive from customers considering artificial grass for playground application is- “does it have any harmful substances or lead?”. Read More…

What is Artificial Grass?

Artificial Grass is a great, responsible alternative to natural grass, especially in the desert regions

Artificial grass is product constructed of polymers to imitate the look and feel of natural grass. Some of the polymers used include polyethelene, polypropylene, and polyurethane. Nylon is also a material commonly used in artificial grass construction but with far less frequency as advanced polymers become far more available and reduce the cost of production. Many of the polymers used in artificial grass yarn production are derived from recycled plastics, with the addition of some virgin materials to further strengthen the yarn. Products made from polymers retain post-consumer recyclable properties.

Artificial grass is very versatile, today’s technology has allow manufacturers to design products for use in landscape applications such as lawns and gardens. There are also products designed for use in putting greens, mimicking the actual roll, bounce, and reaction of a natural putting surface. With the development of durable polymers and fall-rated padding, the application of artificial grass in sports fields Read More…

The Details: Infill Media and It’s Importance to Artificial Grass Surfaces

Ecofill is a high quality infill that enhances the look and performance of artificial grass surfaces

Nobody wants a backyard that smells of dog urine or mold. Modern technology has allowed us to combat a trait that has long haunted pet owner’s backyards.

Many artificial grass lawns will be occupied by pet owners, roughly 75% of our clients backyards are. So one of the main focus of an artificial grass installation company should be to accommodate the pet and it’s owners needs. Synthetic lawn surfaces are a great alternative to natural lawns for pets partially because they are far more stable and can handle traffic better. Many pet owner’s are familiar with spotty brown patches throughout their lawn, caused by burns from pet urine.

Pet urine carries high levels of many components that can burn lawns and leave behind yellow and brown patches. Some of these components include nitrogen, ammonia, high PH levels, and sodium. The high levels of concentration of any on of these elements is enough to kill grass and leave the soil unfit for regrowth for years to come. This leads to a very expensive and/or time consuming headache of trying to maintain a useable and enjoyable backyard for entertainment and family. That’s where artificial turf has it’s benefits.

Pet urine can take it’s toll on an artificial lawn as well, commonly used silica sand and crumb rubber infill medias have porous properties that allow them to soak up any moisture it comes into contact with. This leads to the build up of odor and mold deposits that will accumulate and leave your lawn area with an unwelcoming odor. It is recommended that those considering artificial grass seek out an installation that includes a coated or non-porous media, like Ecofill by Arizona Turf Solutions. Read More…
